You will find Travelers to be full of energy, and a workplace in which you truly can make a difference.<br><br><br><br>SUMMARY:<br><br>The Regional Underwriting Director (RUD) is responsible for execution of the underwriting function within their assigned Underwriting Center(s).  This position holds the highest level of underwriting authority in the field and is responsible for ensuring that authority delegated to field AEs and UDs is based on individual experience and expertise.  The RUD is responsible for oversight of the Underwriting Quality process conducted by others within the Underwriting Centers.  The role supports the development and consistent implementation of Select underwriting strategies.  The RUD reports directly to the Second Vice President of Underwriting in Home Office, with a matrix reporting relationship with the Second Vice President Underwriting, Select Underwriting Center. To assure full understanding of the Underwriting Center and its needs, the RUD role will reside in either Hartford or Boston Underwriting Center.<br><br><br><br>PRIMARY DUTIES:<br><br>- Resource for collaboration on more technically challenging accounts.  On a transactional basis, review and sign off on business referred due to coverage, limits, size or hazard.<br><br>- In collaboration with Home Office Underwriting and Product Development, define underwriting appetite (including automated business rule development) by segment, line of business and geography.  Provide Regional and State specific information relative to the legal, regulatory, catastrophe (natural and otherwise), and business environment within the Underwriting Center.<br><br>- Develop and implement specific program, segment, and line of business strategies in conjunction with Home Office Underwriting and Product Development, Product Management, Operations and Actuarial.<br><br>- Oversee Underwriting Controls within the Underwriting Center<br><br>* Monitor and evaluate the Quality/Self Assessment Process.  Perform independent evaluation to insure the integrity of the process and provide analysis of findings to 2VP and Home Office Underwriting.<br><br>* Analysis and review of Ex-Gratia, and Reformation Requests<br><br>- Participate in field performance reviews within assigned region, and provide support to other Underwriting Centers as requested.<br><br>- Implement CAT underwriting strategies and manage CAT capacity within assigned Underwriting Center.<br><br>- Identify training needs through analysis of underwriting execution and field performance reviews.
