We are seeking a self motivated professional with solid commercial property/casualty insurance underwriting experience looking to challenge themselves in the field of underwriting alternative risk transfer products. Specific responsibilities include:

Development and underwriting of captive programs that support long and short term business strategies that effectively achieve profit and growth objectives.

Working with Marketing, Actuarial, Finance, Operations and Claim personnel to develop and maintain relationships with various outside production sources.

Participation in the marketing and business planning of existing programs consistent with program growth and expansion objectives.

Development and communication of program underwriting guidelines, strategy, terms and conditions.

Oversight of captive program underwriting performance.



Qualifications:

College degree or equivalent work experience.

Minimum of five years of Property & Casualty commercial lines underwriting work experience.

Group Captive experience a plus, but not required

Solid knowledge of technical underwriting.

Excellent analytical/problem solving skills.

Strong computer skills, e.g., Excel - pivot tables, spreadsheet development using formulae.

Strong collaboration and relationship building ability.

Strong negotiating skills; able to solicit win-win results.

Effective, articulate and professional communication and presentation skills.

Direct client contact experience required

Job Duties:



Responsible for activities associated with marketing, production, underwriting and servicing of Northland Transportation business. Ensures the profitability, growth, and retention of business consistent with overall company objectives. Provides training to agents to implement the program. Able to assess program opportunities and make recommendations to improve the program viability and profitability.



-Supports long and short term business strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives for assigned book of business through responsible marketing and sound underwriting.

Job Requirements: Previous property/casualty underwriting and marketing experience (3 years +). Experience with underwriting trucking is preferred. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong problem solving skills, four year college degree or equivalent work experience, and computer literacy. Must be willing to travel.

SUMMARY:

The Regional Underwriting Director (RUD) is responsible for execution of the underwriting function within their assigned Underwriting Center(s). This position holds the highest level of underwriting authority in the field and is responsible for ensuring that authority delegated to field AEs and UDs is based on individual experience and expertise. The RUD is responsible for oversight of the Underwriting Quality process conducted by others within the Underwriting Centers. The role supports the development and consistent implementation of Select underwriting strategies. The RUD reports directly to the Second Vice President of Underwriting in Home Office, with a matrix reporting relationship with the Second Vice President Underwriting, Select Underwriting Center. To assure full understanding of the Underwriting Center and its needs, the RUD role will reside in either Hartford or Boston Underwriting Center.



PRIMARY DUTIES:

- Resource for collaboration on more technically challenging accounts. On a transactional basis, review and sign off on business referred due to coverage, limits, size or hazard.

- In collaboration with Home Office Underwriting and Product Development, define underwriting appetite (including automated business rule development) by segment, line of business and geography. Provide Regional and State specific information relative to the legal, regulatory, catastrophe (natural and otherwise), and business environment within the Underwriting Center.

- Develop and implement specific program, segment, and line of business strategies in conjunction with Home Office Underwriting and Product Development, Product Management, Operations and Actuarial.

- Oversee Underwriting Controls within the Underwriting Center

* Monitor and evaluate the Quality/Self Assessment Process. Perform independent evaluation to insure the integrity of the process and provide analysis of findings to 2VP and Home Office Underwriting.

* Analysis and review of Ex-Gratia, and Reformation Requests

- Participate in field performance reviews within assigned region, and provide support to other Underwriting Centers as requested.

- Implement CAT underwriting strategies and manage CAT capacity within assigned Underwriting Center.

- Identify training needs through analysis of underwriting execution and field performance reviews. In collaboration with the Select Training Unit, develop and deliver technical training.

- Complete special projects as assigned by Home Office Underwriting.

- Mentor Underwriting Center staff in the area of underwriting performance at the direction of the 2VP Underwriting, Select Underwriting Center and in support of the Underwriting Director.

- Monitor territorial performance in areas of regulatory, compliance, and strategic issues.

- Build partnerships with other business groups and identifies and delivers agency solutions and product solutions at the account level.

- Maintain an understanding of Travelers products, services and solutions and initiates discussions with other business units as appropriate.



QUALIFICATIONS:

- Minimum 12 years Commercial Lines underwriting experience; expertise across all lines of business.

- CPCU, ARM or related professional designation; or working towards designation desired.

- College Degree or equivalent experience.

- Two years supervisory/management experience preferred.

- Extensive knowledge of product, operations, and agency distribution.

- Willing/able to travel to Home Office (Hartford) as business needs require.
