Job Description Summary
Provides legal advice and support to recognized area of expertise within the company. Handles moderate to highly complex legal matters. Communicates independently with high-level internal and/or external clients on matters of legal strategy, business impact and litigation alternatives. Work focus will be on Commercial/Business Insurance and Distribution/Broker arrangements and experience in those areas is preferred.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Provide day to day legal advice and support to assigned business.
Proactively drive optimal resolution of litigation through active strategy formation, management, monitoring, and reporting.
Support legal expense management initiatives.
Identify, monitor, and provide updates on case law, legislative developments, and legal trends.
Provide training to business as necessary.
Ensure legal best practices and litigation management.
Develop tools to assist staff in policy reviews.
Collaborate effectively with businesses as needed to achieve business goals and initiatives.
Juris Doctorate degree required.
Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge
Typically has minimum of seven years experience of relevant insurance and litigation experience.
Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies
English and French language skills are preferred.
Dual qualification in Ontario and Quebec an asset.
Strong computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Solid negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, client relationships, analytical problem solving, influencing and documentation.
Exceptional time management skills in order to effectively manage a significant portfolio of claim files.
Ability to work independently, but in a collaborative manner with other Travelers business units.
Good judgment and strong problem solving skills.
