Travelers Wins Fourth CIO 100 Award for TravelersLLM
Travelers has earned a 2026 CIO 100 Award for TravelersLLM, an AI model that embeds 170 years of insurance expertise into TravAI, making proprietary institutional knowledge available to every employee.
More than 3 million insurance documents went into training this large language model. It’s reinforced with business and technology expertise to provide a resource that understands every guideline, every coverage nuance and the reasoning patterns that define how Travelers operates.
“TravelersLLM is more than an innovative achievement – it’s a reflection of our commitment to delivering better outcomes for our customers, distribution partners and employees,” says Mojgan Lefebvre, EVP and Chief Technology & Operations Officer. “When our people have instant access to 170 years of institutional knowledge, they can solve problems faster, make better decisions and serve customers in ways that set us apart. Efforts like this demonstrate what happens when talented people are empowered to think boldly and build something new.”
“We built the plane in the air — pivoting and adapting our approach as new research came out week by week. It was exciting to work at the frontier of what’s possible in AI,” says Vincent Haines, Principal Data Scientist. “We made a bet on where the future was heading, kept our resolve and adapted our strategy as the path became clearer, always staying focused on what would give Travelers a real competitive advantage.”
Our 2026 CIO 100 Award is the fourth win for Travelers. We were previously recognized in 2025 for Bond & Specialty Insurance New Business Submission Automation, in 2021 for digitizing customer service capabilities, and in 2020 for our Wildlife Loss Detector. New Business Submission Automation and Wildlife Loss Detector also earned Gartner Eye on Innovation Awards.
The CIO 100 Awards recognize 100 organizations using technology in ways that deliver business value – creating competitive advantages, optimizing business processes, enabling growth or improving customer relationships.
Projects like TravelersLLM happen when data scientists, software engineers, architects, cybersecurity professionals and data analytics experts work alongside insurance professionals who bring industry knowledge. That combination creates an environment where you can work on technology that has immediate impact.
