My Travelers Journey Featuring Data Engineer II Bobby Ronacher
When Bobby Ronacher, Data Engineer II, is faced with a challenge, he is determined to solve it.
Whether he’s working to automate processes for Travelers Bond & Specialty Insurance (BSI), or spending too much time learning a new hobby, Bobby will chip away at a task with patience, curiosity and persistence until he’s found a better path forward.
After earning an actuarial mathematics degree at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Bobby worked in data engineering for about five years. Thanks to WPI’s partnership with Travelers, and rave reviews from former classmates who joined the organization, he landed his role and began his tech career with the company.
“Unlike some other big companies, Travelers truly invests in its employees, making our people our competitive advantage. Travelers encourages us to learn, upskill and stay current, offering incredible internal opportunities to do so, such as the Travelers Technology Transformation Summit (T3), sponsoring AWS (Amazon Web Services) certification exams and the annual Innovation Jam hackathon.”
Bobby’s career has spanned multiple high-impact technology projects. His first role involved building data infrastructure solutions for business intelligence and reporting. His second position focused on cloud-based machine learning operations, developing automated processes that connect underwriting teams with advanced pricing models.
Currently, he leads automation initiatives that streamline data processing workflows using modern analytics platforms. Bobby has also contributed to emerging technology projects, including generative AI applications that enhance data integration and analysis capabilities.
“Data Engineering is a complicated field, but I’m passionate about it. You may make mistakes along the way, but it’s a fun learning experience and feels extremely rewarding when you finally get it right.”
Bobby’s favorite pastimes are golfing, ice skating (he played hockey in college) and spending time with his wife and their cats Savannah and Leia.
He solves problems outside of work as well – for example, to save time during meal planning, he created an app that generates balanced weekly dinner menus, based on recipes he scraped from the web, as well as shopping lists.
Along with cooking, Bobby has an affinity for wine and wants to own a vineyard. With his MBA from Indiana University, he feels that he can handle the business side of it.
When Bobby travels, he plans unique activities – for example, he explored historical buildings in Scotland, including a whiskey distillery. This summer, he’ll witness the solar eclipse from Spain, one of two countries in the path of totality.
