Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$153,700.00 – $253,700.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers Data Engineering team constructs pipelines that contextualize and provide easy access to data by the entire enterprise. As a Data Engineering Senior Director you will accelerate growth and transformation of our analytics landscape. In this role, you will lead teams designing and building data solutions that capture, explore, transform and utilize data to support Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and business intelligence/insights. In addition to ingesting data from multiple sources and relaying information to relevant partners, you will also mentor and develop a team of data engineers.

What Will You Do?

  • Lead development of analytic data products and AI-enabled data platform capabilities, including intelligent ingestion, standardized pipelines, agent-based orchestration, and AI-assisted quality across all data types.
  • Execute data strategies to support various consumption patterns and enable easy, secure access to certified data products through AI-powered discovery, semantic layers, and self-service interfaces.
  • Establish and enforce enterprise data engineering standards, reference architectures, and delivery practices that drive reuse, consistency, and faster time-to-production.
  • Drive the operationalizing and automating of all capabilities, embedding AI into engineering workflows through tooling and standards that improve developer productivity and ensure secure, supported, and scalable solutions.
  • Present analysis and recommendations to help influence management and executive leadership decisions regarding data platform evolution and AI integration strategies.
  • Guide and coach senior team members to accelerate career development and build expertise in AI-native data engineering practices.
  • Establish budgets, policies and practices with significant impact on area operations and the organization’s AI transformation journey.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
  • Eight or more years of related work experience.
  • Four or more years of team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting and implementing enterprise-scale AI data platforms, with specific expertise in technologies such as Snowflake and Databricks
  • Proven track record establishing and governing data engineering practices across organizations, with the ability to influence and drive adoption of standards and best practices
  • Extensive experience integrating AI capabilities into data engineering workflows, including machine learning operations and intelligent automation
  • Deep understanding of data movement architectures, including data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and efficient data transfer between storage and processing layers
  • Successful implementation of AI-driven efficiencies in data operations, demonstrating measurable improvements in productivity, quality, and time-to-value
  • Subject matter expertise in data tools, techniques, and manipulation including cloud platforms, programming languages, and technology platforms.

What is a Must Have?

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
  • 7 additional years of data engineering experience.
  • 2 years of technical leadership experience.
